Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit have shared a live performance of "Stockholm," the second track on Isbell's seminal 2013 album, Southeastern. Press play above to watch the clip of the group's 2014 performance, which is premiering exclusively on The Boot and is part of a forthcoming CD and DVD release.
Isbell and company's "Stockholm" performance was recorded during Grammy Award-winning guitarist and singer-songwriter Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam on Dec. 13, 2014. The set featured Isbell's five-piece band, including his wife, fellow solo artist Amanda Shires, and event organizer Haynes tells The Boot that the clip is a "beautiful performance of a beautiful song.”
Haynes holds his Christmas Jam each year in his hometown of Asheville, N.C., and works to give back to charitable causes during the holiday season. Since its inception over three decades ago, the annual tradition has become the Asheville-area Habitat for Humanity's largest yearly contributor, raising over $2.7 million. Now, Haynes is preparing to release a live film and album surrounding the show. Titled Warren Haynes Presents: The Benefit Concert Vol. 16, it will be released on Friday (Dec. 13) on DVD/CD, Blu-ray and double vinyl, as well as digitally. All proceeds from the live project will also benefit Habitat for Humanity.
In addition to Isbell & the 400 Unit, a number of other artists will be featured on The Benefit Concert Vol. 16. The Marshall Tucker Band's Paul Riddle, Hard Working Americans, Haynes' own Gov't Mule with Jackie Greene and many more artists contribute to the two-hour live performance. Billy & the Kids' included rendition of "Shakedown Street" is already available for fans to watch.
Since this live performance in 2014, Isbell and his backing band have put out two studio albums: 2015's Something More Than Free and 2017's The Nashville Sound. In mid-December, Shires posted a picture on Instagram of herself and Isbell smiling from under a recording console, indicating in the caption that fans can expect new music from Isbell soon.
"The new [Jason Isbell] is almost complete," she wrote. "New sounds and rock and roll forever."
