On Sunday evening, Dave Matthews Band returned to the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA, for the final performance of their three-night run this weekend. The show also featured opening act Gov’t Mule, and the frontmen of the two bands traded sit ins during each other’s sets.
First up was Mule’s opening set, which got the collaborations started with DMB saxophonist Jeff Coffin joining the group for “Devil Likes It Slow,” followed immediately by his bandmate Rashawn Ross adding his trumpet to “Dreams & Songs.” To close out their set, Mule brought out Dave Matthews, sans guitar, to sing on “Forsaken Savior.”
Matthews returned the favor later in the evening, welcoming Warren Haynes out and continuing the collaboration from the previous night, when Haynes joined DMB for a cover of Neil Young’s “Cortez the Killer.” Last night, the collaborators added another page to their substantial list of onstage meetings, as Haynes added his guitar to the DMB classic “#41.” Earlr in the set, Matthews and company also brought up young trumpeter Joe Fotheringham for “She” off DMB’s most recent studio album, Come Tomorrow.
Check out both setlists below, along with fan-shot video of some of the collaborations. Dave Matthews Band continue their summer tour later this week with a Sept. 4 show in Ridgefield, WA, while Gov’t Mule will play Salt Lake City, UT, on the same night.
