Warren Haynes Talks Guitars, Gov’t Mule and Tel-Star Sessions
Gov’t Mule fans received quite a treat this past August. Coinciding with the band’s 2016 “Smokin’ Mule” tour, the blues-rock veterans released The Tel-Star Sessions, a set of recordings made by the original lineup back in June 1994, when the very idea of Gov’t Mule was just starting to coalesce. Recorded in Bradenton, Florida—while guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody were enjoying some down time from their work in the Allman Brothers band—the material was originally meant to comprise the group’s debut album.

Warren Haynes’ 28th Annual Christmas Jam returns on December 10, 2016 to once again light up Asheville, NC’s U.S. Cellular Center with the holiday spirit. One of the most celebrated and longest-running live concerts in the U.S., the Christmas Jam is a beloved tradition that brings together the Asheville community with performing artists, volunteers and friends from all over the country to raise funds for the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity.

For all of his skills as a guitarist, singer and songwriter, Warren Haynes’ artistry is perhaps best defined by his continual quest for new creative projects. In June 1994, Haynes — alongside his fellow Allman Brothers Band member Allen Woody and drummer Matt Abts — entered Tel-Star Studios in Bradenton, Florida, to record a mixture of originals and cover songs.
